Every year, Odisha faces bird flu outbreaks, and this year is no exception.
Over 5,000 chickens were culled in the Pipili area of Puri
district after the H5N1 strain of avian influenza was detected.
The outbreak's epicenter is about 19 miles from Bhubaneswar,
the state capital. This follows the recent death of 1,800 birds at a local
poultry farm.
What Should Odisha Residents Do?
They should follow local health advisories, avoid contact
with sick birds, and practice good hygiene.
Authorities may advise on safe handling and cooking of
poultry. It is important to
avoid visiting live poultry markets and refrain from consuming undercooked or
raw poultry products.
Here are five key points for Odisha residents to follow:
Avoid touching or going near sick or dead birds.
Wash your hands regularly with soap and water, especially
after handling poultry.
Ensure chicken and eggs are fully cooked to kill any
potential virus.
Contact local authorities if you see sick or dead birds.
Stay informed through local health advisories for the latest safety guidelines.
